Grounds of St James' Parish Church, Chilomoni, Blantyre

The project was completed in September 2023

  • Total floor area of the house was 47m2, divided into a Living Area and two bedrooms – this will accommodate a small family of four.
  • Shared cooking and washing facilities were already provided in the garden of the original house.
  • Environmentally-friendly Hydraform bricks were used in the main construction of the walls, created by compressing soil and cement in a mould. The blocks are interlocking on 4 sides, so don’t require mortar in their construction. Assembly is therefore quick and easy, and doesn’t require a highly-skilled workforce for construction.
  • The cost includes electrical connection (which isn’t always provided in low-cost housing in Malawi)
  • The work was completed in 6 weeks, start-to-finish
  • On completion, the house was donated to the St. James’ Parish
