In partnership with the Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise, we have taken a holistic approach to tackling the effects of poverty within the community. We have created enterprises, as well as vocational education, building an IT training college and a tailoring school to give people the opportunity to train in skills that will help them enter the job market. We have used all profits from our trading enterprises to invest in high quality education for local children, providing bursaries to those who would otherwise not be able to afford an education. Our Mother Teresa Outreach work extends the reach into the local community and surrounding schools, to support the most vulnerable through food and parenting programmes. Our work is grounded in our Catholic faith, and we support the local Catholic community in Chilomoni. PSPS or ‘Public Service and Personal Sacrifice’ is at the heart of everything we do.
The work we do is rooted in our faith, and whilst our Catholic principles guide all work undertaken at Beehive, we have also created sacred spaces for local people to come together in prayer and worship. These range from community wide projects, such as the Way of the Cross to the Beehive Hall, which provides space for all Beehive staff to come together for weekly assembly and prayer.
Since our inception we have established a wide variety of enterprises in a number of different sectors. This enables us to utilise local skill sets and tap into a range of national and international markets. All enterprises provide opportunities for local employment. Working at Beehive has become highly sought after by people across the region, who are drawn by its sense of community and fair employment terms.
Providing high quality education for the local community is a key focus of ours. We want to both support people in learning the skills they need to enter the job market, as well as empowering future generations. Our vision is to offer high quality education from nursery through to young adults and we are currently constructing a Primary School and sports pitches at the Beehive Campus to help fulfil this goal.
